August 2022A leaf beetle teams up with Fusarium as a bodyguard and, in return, the fungus hitches a ride to new host plants. Co-led with Hassan Salem and Noa Breitenbach, our latest work is out in Current Biology! Drawing by Julie Johnson.
July 2022Another field season comes to an end. As always, thankful for the terrific team: the Mutualisms Research Group and Don Windsor! In the photo, Omaspides bistriata, Panama.
June 2022Time to say farewell to a phenomenal young scientist I’ve been working with for the past year. Good luck Noa, and congratulations on a wonderful Bachelor Thesis!
January 2022I recently started a new position as a CMFI Early Career Researcher at the Univeristy of Tübingen. I will be working closely with the Ziemert Lab. Soaking up everything natural product related!
November 2021I tagged along with the Mutualisms Research Group and Don Windsor on another amazing trip to the tropics!
December 2019We visited La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica with the Dentinger Lab to study fungus-growing ants. In the photo, an Apterostigma nest.
June 2019Another GRC for Animal-Microbe Symbioses in the books! As always, it was a fantastic conference and yet another opportunity for a Kaltenpoth Lab reunion!
June 2019I organized a session at ISCE 2019 conference: “The chemical ecology of symbiotic interactions”. Thankful to all the speakers who contributed to such a fun session.
March 2019Delighted to receive a German Research Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship to support my research at Emory University!
February 2019Happy Women and Girls in Science Day!! I am so happy I get to do science with this group of super talented ladies.
December 2018Finishing the year with a highlight, the Escovopsis team at the Gerardo lab met a handful of experts in leaf cutter ants and their associated organisms. A great collaboration is in the horizon!
February 2018I attended a coding course for evolutionary biologists in Berlin. Spent around 10 hours a day in front of a computer but had a lot of fun. And most importantly, learned a lot!
January 2018Our first work describing the symbioses between leaf beetles and Stammera capleta has been published in Cell.
August 2017I just joined the Gerardo Lab at Emory University! I am really excited about doing some amazing science with this wonderful team!
